Heresy and Orthodoxy in the History of the Church

Heresies, Harold O.J. Brown
Heresies is a book that gives the historical progression of many Christian doctrines. Brown is not a judgmental name-caller of heretics; rather he scholarly presents historical decisions made by the church and the reasons for such decisions. He explains the supposed heretic's point of view as well as the church's, and then lets you decide concerning the validity of judgment. Once one sees the progression of thought that led to some doctrines, they become much harder to criticize. Most people within the church system receive their doctrines watered down and simplistically presented. This leads to many false conclusions concerning these doctrines. This book will help one progress from a basic level of theological understanding to a more technical level. It should also increase one's theological vocabulary. People are incapable of judging doctrines if they don't understand the progression of that doctrine. This book gives the information to properly survey and judge the significance to many doctrines debated over the last 2000 years. 486 pages, hardback

Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus, Vol. 1

Answering Jewish Objections to Jesus, Vol. I,
General and Historical Objections, Michael L. Brown

Michael L. Brown is a Jewish believer in Yehoshua (Jesus) and he has a Ph.D. in Near Eastern Languages and Literature from New York University. I do not sell this book as an evangelical tool! It is strictly included as a research or reference book and should bring understanding between Christians and Jews. However, if used as an evangelical took, it will cause more division. Brown does an excellent job of bringing in ancient writings showing the historical evidence to New Testament idioms, making much clearer the meaning of the text. It should cause both Christian and Jew to reevaluate our thoughts concerning the New Testament and the meanings of phrases found within. 270 pages, paperback

The Messiah in the Old Testament

The Messiah in the Old Testament, in the Light of Rabbinical Writings
Risto Santala

This book about the Messianic Old Testament prophecies has already seen five Hebrew editions in Israel. It is the first study written in modern Hebrew by a gentile scholar.
According to the writer, he is making a kind of "Nahshon's leap", the first one to jump into the Red Sea at Moses' command. The item is somewhat delicate. The writer is stepping into the lion's den of the Rabbis and into the fiery furnace of the liberal theologians. But he hopes that others will follow him and promote a similar dialogue in the spirit of tolerance and spiritual democracy. 237 pages, paperback

The Messiah in the New Testament

The Messiah in the New Testament, in Light of Rabbinical Writings
Risto Santala

This volume follows the presentation of the Messiah in the Old Testament. I
t shows the roots of Christian faith in the light of the oldest and least-censored normative Jewish sources. If the first book was a kind of "Nahshon's leap", the first one to jump into the Red Sea at Moses' command, here we already enter the Promised Land. We dive again into the Bible's own native soil, finding the fulfillment of the Messianic prophecies described in the first volume. From the point of view of their content and mode of presentation, the Gospels dovetail with the same reasoning typical of the "Midrash" or synagogue preaching literature. We do see e.g. that the Lord's Prayer contains phrases and requests from pre-Christian times which have been preserved in the Jewish prayer literature, and the Holy Communion is to be understood as a Messianic meal which hints at an eternal perspective. 264 pages, paperback

The Midrash of the Messiah . . . in Midrash Ruth

The Midrash of the Messiah: The "Meal of the Messiah" in Midrash Ruth
Risto Santala
Our author found Midrash Ruth while preparing his two main Hebrew books about the Messiah in the Old and New Testaments in the Light of Rabbinical Writings. Midrash Ruth reveals an eternal perspective on the Messianic banquet similar to the Holy Communion in the New Testament. The concepts as "to eat in the world, in the Messianic age, and the world to come",  the "bread of the kingdom", the Messiah who was "wounded for our transgressions", the Messiah who will "rain down manna upon his people", the discussions concerning Elijah recording our good deeds, and "the Messiah and Holy One subscribing and sealing them" provided imposing spectacles for studying other Rabbinical writings. 326 pages; paperback

Paul . . . in the Light of Jewish Sources

Paul, the Man and the Teacher, in the Light of the Jewish Sources
Risto Santala

"When the Jews return to the land of their fathers, they will return along a bridge of papyrus," says an ancient proverb. In this way they will return to the home of their roots. As Christians, we too need to return to the birthplace of our faith. This book on Paul is intended as a continuation of the two books Inf-006 and Inf-007. This book describes the course of the apostle's life, the influences he received in his childhood, his education at the feet of Gamaliel and his inner crisis as the opponent of Christianity became the Apostle to the Gentiles. From hundreds of little scraps of information there emerges a close-up picture of Paul's psychology and the foundations of his thinking. 191 pages, paperback
