Authority In order to understand authority through the eyes of God, one must first grasp the meaning of authority. To do this we need to look at a couple of definitions from the "Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary". Author: The maker of anything; creator; originator. Authority: Legal and rightful power; a right to command or to act; jurisdiction. Considering these definitions, could it not be stated that authority is the right to command because of authorship? Authorship is the basis to authority. Author is its root and I do not believe that it can be removed from its meaning. Therefore, a creator gains the rightful power over its creation. As a car manufacturer has the right to all profits, patents and symbols involving his creation; even so, all creators have authority, or jurisdiction over their creation. Thus, “authority” in definition, must derive its power from authorship. The author is the supreme authority. Back
